Shira completed her MSc program in Health Care and Epidemiology in March 2008. She is a an Assistant Professor at SFU and a research scientist at the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS. She is a global health researcher who has been conducting qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods research on social and structural factors shaping HIV and sexually transmitted infections among mobile, vulnerable populations in Canada and Latin America since 2006. Her current research aims to explore how migration and mobility patterns influence the health and safety of migrant sex workers in Vancouver and along the Mexico/Guatemala border.
